Course Objective:
The participating students will learn about various bioinformatics databases, algorithms and tools. The students will be able to analyse sequence, structures and interactions of biological macromolecules – thus enabling them to gain comprehensive functional insights of a biological system.
Modules:
- Accessing sequence and structure databases and information retrieval
- Sequence Analysis
- Pairwise and multiple sequence alignment algorithms and applications
- Phylogenetic Cluster Analysis
- Identification of disease associated polymorphism/ mutation in human genome using different bioinformatics softwares
- Identification of existing RFLP or generating new RFLP at the locus of interest.
- Design of PCR based RFLP method suitable for studying the locus of interest in a given population.
- Standard method of data analysis to determine the association of the polymorphism/mutation with disease phenotype
- Analysis of RNA/DNA sequencing data
- In silico analysis of CpG islands
- Prediction of protein structure
- Visualisation of three dimensional structures of macromolecules
- In silico Protein- Protein/Ligand Interaction studies
- Basics of molecular docking and simulation studies
- Image analysis of biological data
