Guidelines for Post-doctoral Research

Presidency University aims to encourage motivated young researchers who are willing to apply to any national funding agency for support for doing research in frontier areas of Science, Humanities, Social sciences and allied areas at the Post-doctoral level. The Post-doctoral research fellows will work with a Mentor.

Eligibility Criteria for the Applicants

All applicants having Ph.D. degrees in Science or Humanities/Social Sciences are eligible to submit the application. Those who have submitted their Ph.D thesis and are awaiting award of the degree are also eligible to apply. Applicants should have an outstanding track record as evident from the quality of the research outputs and publications.

The upper age limit for the applicant is 35 years or as per notification of the funding agency (whichever is applicable) at the time of the submission of application for forwarding to the funding agency. Age relaxation of 5 years will be considered to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Challenged & Women candidates. Transgender candidates are eligible to apply.

Financial Support of the University

Presidency University will not provide Post-doctoral fellowship. However, the university will provide necessary administrative and infrastructural/ laboratory support for successful candidates who get financial support from external funding agencies.

Mentors

The applicant must first identify a suitable Mentor in the university with which the proposed research objectives will be pursued. If the Mentor is satisfied by the research proposal, he/she will forward the application of the fellow to the Vice-Chancellor through a Recommendation Committee for administrative approval.

A Mentor should hold a regular academic or research position in the university with a Ph.D degree and have at least 3 years research experience. He/she can work with 2 Post-doctoral fellows at any point of time.

Documents

At the time of forwarding the application of the candidate, the following documents are required:

a) Research proposal as per the format of the funding agency.

b) Proof of Date of Birth.

c) Proof of Caste.

d) Proof of Ph.D. Degree or proof of Ph.D. thesis submission certificate.

e) Endorsement Certificate signed by Mentor.

f) Reprints of two best publications.

g) CV of the Mentor.

Recommendation Committee

An independent Recommendation Committee shall assess the research proposal of the applicant. The Recommendation Committee shall include (a) Mentor, and, (b) members of the Departmental Ph.D Committee. Head of the concerned Department will be the Convener of the committee.

Foreign Nationals

Recommendation will be made on case-by-case basis for foreign students willing to carry out Post-doctoral research work at the University. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor shall take the final decision in this regard.

Disputes

Any dispute arising out of or relating to the recommendation/permission for Post-doctoral research proposal, including any question regarding its implementation or termination, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor shall take the final decision.
