Advertisement inviting applications for the position of a Project Associate-I in a Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), funded Project at the Institute of Health Sciences, Presidency University, Kolkata   Date: 08/01/2025

Applications are invited from highly motivated and eligible Indian citizens for the position of Project Associate-Iin a Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) [Grand Challenges India- Climate Change and Agriculture Program] sponsored research project entitled“Development of a multispecies bacterial consortium to control Fusariuminfection and deciphering its epigenetic regulation under elevated humid conditions in tea (Camellia sinensis)" (BT/GCI-CCAGRI0594/13/23) , under the supervision of Dr. Avishek Banik (Principal Investigator), Assistant Professor, Institute of Health Sciences, Presidency University, Kolkata.

Date, Time, and Venue of Interview:16 ^th January, 2025, from 11:30 PM onwards. 5 ^th Floor (Tower 1), Institute of Health Sciences, Presidency University (2nd Campus), Plot No. DG/02/02, Premises No. 14-0358, Action Area-ID, New Town (Near Biswa Bangla Convention Centre), Kolkata-700156, West Bengal, India

Application process: The candidate must email i) their current CV including their contact number ii) a 1000-word research statement including any past research experience in plant-microbe interaction and motivation for this project iii) Name, email id, and phone number of at least one academic referee, who can provide feedback on their academic background, scanned copies of their mark sheets/certificates (class 10 onwards) and a Government-issued photo identity proof in a single PDF file (name the file e.g. BIRAC_PA_Name of the candidate) to the PI (avishek.dbs@presiuniv.ac.in) before 14 ^th January, 2025. Minimum Educational Qualifications Required:Candidates should possess a postgraduate degree in Microbiology/ Molecular Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Life Sciences or related fields, securing at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories), Age Limit: 28 years

The following qualifications are desirable but not mandatory:

a) Previous research experience in microbial metabolomics and genomics (publication or master’s dissertation thesis).

b) Evidence of good oral and written communication skills in English through presentation.

Job description: The fellow will contribute to develop a multispecies microbial consortium to control Fusarium infection through metabolomics and genomics. The fellow will take part in publishing the scientific findings in reputed peer-reviewed international journals. He/she is encouraged to set up collaborations with other members of the department at Presidency University.

Enrolling for Ph.D.: The selected candidate may be allowed to enroll in Ph.D. program as per university rules.

Duration of project: Thirty-six months

Tenure of Assignment:Thirty-six months or subject to the availability of funds by the funding agency.

Fellowship/Salary:Rs. 31000 + 27% HRA = Rs. 39370/ per month

1. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
