Research / Administrative Experience+
My Ph D. thesis entitled " Three Essays on the Infromal Credit Institutions in the Readymade Garment Industry in Metiabruz, Kolkata", is a blend of empirical observations and theoretical analysis of observed network patterns. Looking for the architecture of the strategically stable networks that support the informal contracting arrangements among the industry participants in this garment manufacturing industry is one such example. In a larger sense, this work is an attempt to understand why the vernacular legal structure persists in such a large industry a century and a half after the introduction of Anglo-Saxon legal contracting arrangements in Colonial India. This is not an empirical curiosity. Different networked communities prefer age old vernacular arrangements, including the international diamond industry, the cotton industry, sugar industry etc., over the regular formal legal system. The beauty of this is that this works successfully outside the formal legal enforcement mechanism and is able to solve the cooperation problem among the industry participants.
