Arnab Halder
Professor and Head of the Department
About-
Basically, I am a Physical Chemistry teacher and teaching is my passion. Area of my academic interest are Spectroscopy, Excited State Dynamics, Chemical Thermodynamics and Chemical Dynamics. I am also interested to study different types of soft interactions within biological systems. Recently I want to devote myself fully to teach and motivate the students to learn science in true sense. And, I am working on luminescence properties of nanomaterials and the excited state dynamics of different fluorophore (using pico second laser) to explore the interactions present in the bio molecules like protein, DNA etc.
Presently, I am working on the spectral features of graphene based nanomaterials and trying to synthesise new quantum dots with tunable optical properties.
Qualifications+
B. Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry from Presidency College (1999)
M. Sc. with Physical Chemistry Specialization form Calcutta University (2001)
Ph.D. from IACS (2006)
Post Doctoral Research Work in Molecular Photoscience Research Center, Kobe University, Japan (2007-08)
Biography+
My doctoral work at Physical Chemistry Department of IACS as CSIR fellow (2001 - 2004) was on ultrafast processes in confined environment like polymer-surfactant aggregate, proteins, lipids, solgel matrix, micelles etc. using picosecond LASER.
In 2004, I got a job in Shibpur Dinobundhoo Institution (College) as Lecturer and before joining in Presidency University (December 17, 2013) I was Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the same college.
Research / Administrative Experience+
During doctoral work, I studied different photophysical processes in organised assemblies using picosecond LASER.
In Kobe University, area of my research was pulse shaping to control excited state dynamics.
Now, I am working with the spectroscopic features of graphene based nanomaterials.
Teaching / Other Experience+
In Shibpur Dinobundhoo Institution (College), I took classes on almost all topics in undergraduate level. Not only that I was involved in various administrative work, e.g., convener of Admission Sub-Committee, member of IQAC, Nodal Officer of the College for AISHE.
I had also taken classes for PG students of Presidency College as well as Presidency University in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013.
In Presidency University, I take classes of UG and PG levels in Atomic Structure, Thermodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Chemical Dynamics, Spectroscopy and Photochemistry.
