About-
I have undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience of 25 years. My teaching assignments currently include papers on Western Sociological Thought, Indian Sociological Thought, Indian Society. I have three doctoral scholars working with me presently. My research interest is broadly in the area of Globalization,Consumption,Leisure; Bengali Intellectual History.Currently I am engaged in a research project on Kumudini Trust of Bangladesh (1947), which focuses on memory and object history and rewrites organizational history in light of new materiality.
Apart from my teaching commitment and research, I am also engaged in academic administrartion. I have been in the position of Departmental Head from 2013.I have also held various other academic administrative responsibilities in my years of teaching.These include membership in the bodies like Governing Board, Faculty Council,Board of Studies,NAAC Committee,Doctoral Committee,Examination Committee,Routine Committee, Ethics Committee, etc.

Biography+
Without any formal training in Sociology at the plus two level,I stood first in the Presidency College entrance examination.This was an instant connect with the discipline.The subject has given theories,methods,heuristic tools,analytical concepts,imagination,reflexivity and more.With the sociological lens I look into the self,the other and society.I am fascinated with the process of sociological research,the construction,deconstruction and reconstruction of social world.After completing my BA Hons in Sociology from Presideny College,I went on to do my MA, MPhil and PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University,New Delhi. I got my first job as Lecturer at Kabi Sukanta Mahavidyalaya,Hooghly through College Service Commission(empanelled 1st) in 1999. In 2008, I joined Presidency College through Public Service Commission(empanelled 1st).In 2013, I became part of Presidency University.

Bengali Intelluctual Tradition; Globalization,Consumption,Leisure; Domestic Space and Women; Object History.
Ongoing Research Projects:
1. Kumudini Trust: An Intimate History of Gender, Care and Capital in Post- Partition Bengal. I am working in collaboration with Dr.Nabamita Das, Asst. Professor, Dept of Sociology, Presidency University. The project entails documenting the institutional and lived history of Kumudini Trust, the oldest Welfare Trust in Bangladesh.
2. Consultancy project in collaboration with Prof. Sumita Saha, Dept. Of Sociology, Presidency University.Social Impact Analysis of CSR projects(medical facilities/ equipments to hospitals across West Bengal) undertaken by West Bengal State Electricity Tranmission Corporation (WBSETCL).
MPhil and PhD Research:
1.My PhD thesis was on Resurgent Hindu Nationalism in The Age of Globalization:The Case of West Bengal.1998-2002.Supervisor T.K.Oommen.
2.My MPhil dissertation was on Political Responses to the New Economic Policy in India,1991.1996-1998.Supervisor T.K.Oommen.
