Gour Bhattacharya
Assistant Professor
About-
I am a theoretical physicist and I have worked on a range of topics throughout my career. During my Master's research I had worked on modelling ion-atom collisions (in the KeV energy regime) using the quantum mechanical tool of generalized eikonal (Glauber) approximation for scattering processes. During my doctoral work I had worked on modelling proton-proton collisions (in the multi-TeV energy regime) using the tools of Quantum Field Theory, in particular, nonabelian gauge theory. Presently my interests are in Theoretical Cosmology and topics at the interface of particle physics and astrophysics. My teaching interests are commensurate with my research interests. I have taught a variety of courses in Theoretical physics at levels ranging from undergraduate to post M.Sc. I strive to learn new areas by teaching interactively to a class of enthusiastic good students.
Qualifications+

Biography+
After finishing my undergraduate studies in physics at Presidency College, I have worked at three universities in North America; University of Missouri-Rolla, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Carleton University at Ottawa, in various capacities, from graduate student to postdoctoral researcher. I have also worked in a non-tenured research position at Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar. I joined West Bengal Education Service (WBES) as a faculty member in 2002. I was initially posted at Taki Govt. College in N. 24 Parganas and was duly transferred to Presidency College in 2006. I have continued to work as a faculty member in this institution after it was transformed to a University.
