Subhajit Das
Assistant Professor
About-
I am mostly interested in understanding the anthropogenic interaction and interrelationship with the environment and thus the unique resultant socio-culturo-economic issues. The behavioural pattern of human beings over the ever-dynamic earth started attracting me since I started concentrating in the geographical phenomena like tourism activities. Presently, the orientation of my research work is studying the impact of tourism on social and natural environment as well as its potentials in community development, especially in rural areas. Sustainability of mass tourism and ecotourism is another dimension that I am very much concerned with.
Qualifications+
B.Sc. in Geography (Krishnath College, West Bengal, 2004)
M.Sc. in Geography (University of Kalyani, West Bengal, 2006)
Ph.D. in Geography (University of Kalyani, West Bengal, 2012)
Biography+
My doctoral work is on “Tourism Industry and Community Development in Sikkim”. My professional career as a teacher started in the year 2006 and simultaneously I started my research career as well. The only source of my research funds was my service as I had opted for that rather than joining the ‘University Research Fellowship’ after qualifying NET (June, 2007) and SET (2007).
Research / Administrative Experience+
Contemporarily, I am concentrating on the research works that are relevant to the multi-dimensional geographical aspects of tourism activities like Community based Ecotourism, Rural Tourism, Mass Tourism, Tourism Impact Assessment, Carrying Capacity Analysis etc. with the help of applying RS and GIS and other instrument based methodological approaches.
Teaching / Other Experience+
I taught parts of physical geography (geomorphology and geotectonic, soil geography, geological maps etc.) as well as the human geography when I joined the WBES as Assistant Professor in Geography at Haldia Govt. College during the time period from August 2009 to March 2010.
I preferred the same area of geographical studies for my classes when I joined Kalyani Mahavidyalaya (College) during the period from April 2010 to May 2013.
Presently (since May 2013), I am focusing mainly on different aspects and issues of human geography like social geography, geography of tourism though I take some classes on soil geography.
Post Graduate Supervision+
At present, I am interested in supervising post-graduate students and Ph.D. scholars in the field of issues and aspects of geography of tourism.
